i just have a quick question when it comes to z32 brake swaps on s-chassis, i currently have a s14 with z32 brakes all around, i know your supost to use the proper cables for it to work but my question is, is the parking shoes in the back really that reliable for drift use? also i cant seem to find replacements for them either, stupid noob question but i just wanna hear what people with this set up have to say about it
want to hear about this as well, are you saying they discontinued 300zx rear brakes sets? that’s can’t be possible the car goes up to 1998 and it’s one of Nissan’s vintage collection cars.
im not saying its discontinued i havnt tried nissan yet but other part stores dont list them and mine are kinda rusty and shit…
i dont think that it matters if they are suitable for drift use… it’s a parking brake for a street car after all… it’s suitable for it’s intended use and more on a 240sx given that it weights much less than a Z32.
when i did this swap the first time i spent as much on the hardware for the Z32 drum parking brake as i did on the calipers and lines and pads :)… you do have to go through the dealer is you want to be sure that you get the right parts and ones that are not busted. However, project Mu offers aftermarket brake shoes.
i do plan in the future to be running a second set of calipers with its on set on lines to a hydro hand brake, but for the mean time im still trying to figure this out
I’ve been drifting with the Z32 parking brake for 3 years now, 28 events. It works pretty well and I think that says a lot about its reliability, as I’ve never had a problem with it. I’m only using aftermarket replacement shoes.
There was a Drift Tengoku video where they did a Z32 brake swap with parking brake on an S14/15? and Max Orido did a driving impression and said that the ebrake worked better when drifting. Can’t remember if they used the Mu shoes though.
To optimize the system, I had the cable mounting brackets welded to the underside of the car, as they flex when you really pull on the handle.
My setup is not even 100% perfect but still works well. The drum had surface rust built up from the previous owner not having the mechanism/backing plates installed. I cleaned them up as best I could with a wire wheel, but the surface is not perfectly smooth. If it was, I think they would work just a little better, as the shoe would be in complete contact with the drum. I’ve considered having the rotors machined or replaced, but it works well enough that I don’t bother.
Me too, I got hosed buying the assembly from some obscure Z32 shop in Toronto. I only used the backing plates and anchor block. The shoes, hardware kit and cables I bought new separately.
You should only pay around $200 for the assembly, there was one guy on here that had a bunch for sale, Zilvia has plenty as well.
OP, what do you mean “find replacements”? Do you have any of the parking brake stuff?
And for the dual caliper setup, GKTech has a kit coming out that retains the stock rotor and therefore cable parking brake, unlike the Maverick kit where you have to use a Mustang rotor.
OP as someone that advertised they own a shop… you need to get better at sourcing aftermarket parts.
another question for you guys, because i dont have my ebrake set up done yet, i did some research from the thread that covers the entire swap, but the dude is saying people in s13s are lucky cause the z32 cables will reach the stock t bar but according to him the s14 wont due to the gas tank, has anyone found a solution without custom fabing the cables?
R33 cables for S14
Is it hard to get some r33 enrage cables? I would like to find a super mint set of everything I need for the rear conversion except the shoes, I will buy the project mu ones that bing suggested. Also would like the rear callipers podwercoted. If possible
google.ca > Search “r33 ebrake cables” > second link.
Guys. It’s 2014. Google it.
bro, we need the traffic here bro… bro
i thought the r33 cables needed mod to work, but if u say they will ill try it, you guys know more thats why im asking here lol,
…bro…
r33 cables fit the s14
z32 cables fit the s13
also, I think and correct me if i’m wrong, z32 cables differ in length between models because some s13 owners who used the z32 cables, had to use like an extension bracket to make the cables long enough for them to work
anyone care to chime in?
Z32 2+2 cables with extension brackets to fit the cable housing correctly is the s13 setup. Some people cut and crimp the cables so they’re the correct length, but that’s not the best idea in my opinion. There is a guy on Zilvia that has also posted on here that fabricates the brackets. I have them on my car and they fit great. Only complaint is they flex a little - but welding them to the chassis would likely fix that.
If you buy a z32 ebrake setup make sure you get spacer washers for the top anchor, or use z32 wheel bearings with the extra “tab” at the top to space the anchor correctly.
And Bing, traffic is one thing, but encouraging people to think for themselves once in a while isn’t the worst
hey man I always google my stuff before I ask here, UNLESS im just asking to make sure, no sense in making yourself look like a fool on zilvia, id rather look like a noob here with the locals lool, plus the reason im asking people with experience, I just ordered the r33 cables so I hope they work, thank you for the info lool bro
