For the IT Gurus: Disabling HDD Lock Password

I have an HDD Lock (not the same as BIOS lock!) on my laptop.

When I turn it on, before anything else, it asks for an HDD password. I know the password, but I want to get rid of this setup so when I do a fresh install it no longer asks for it.

Apparently it’s tied to the hard drive (hence the name) not the OS. So I want to get rid of it.

Any info out there?

Ok you’re going to need a hammer, duct tape, chewing gum, and a paperclip.

You’ll know what to do when it’s all in front of you.

OK so the obligatory representative from the peanut gallery has spoken…

Can the guru(s) chime in now? :lol

What brand is the HDD?

Hitachi. From what I see on hddunlock.com, it’s not a supported drive with their unlock software.

From what I read, it seems that there’s no way to remove the HDD unlock even if you KNOW the password… :frowning:

You set the HDD password in BIOS. If you know the password you can go into most BIOS setups and disable it. If you don’t know it you can call the manufacturer of the laptop, considering the HDD is the OEM HDD that came with the laptop, and they will give you manufacturer bipass password that reset the HDD password completely. I know because i’ve done it a million times.

OK will give this a shot, thank you.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Will do, appreciate the help man.
