Fry chews on America. Om nom nom.

never said that once in the entire argument. With anarchy, there would be no check on anyone violating anyone elses natural freedoms and no court system to deal with any of these violations.

interesting read. I will definitely be back. few questions.

How do you think religion plays in the economic situation? (one of the wealthiest organizations)

How or what role do you think the U.N. will play in it all?

I REALLY think or feel that this is leading up to somthing HUGE.

I don’t really see religion playing a role. It seems to me that the political power of organized religion is going to be increasingly diminished by the age of instant information. See: twitter/Iran. Hopefully organized religion can go back to teaching morals and enlightenment and understanding and caring for one another, which we seem to be in a real depression of these days anyway.

As for the UN, I wouldn’t be too surprised if some league of nations got together and said “Hey, the US’s economic policies affect the entire world. We should get some say in the US’s policies!” Not that we can make our policies without regard to the rest of the world anyhow, since the world has financed our prosperity for us. It all tends to come full circle I guess.

Agreed. Sorry to misinterpret. Just trying to understand your argument. It seems to have gone over my head.

UN? Funny you should ask, here is an oldie but a goodie…

(And yes Joe I know who the source is so don’t bother posting;))

Uggh. Had to go back to Indiana.

So here I think is the root of my troubles. What is “the American way of life” that we all seem to intrinsically want to protect at all costs, even if we disagree on how to do it?

It seems like we’ve accidentally switched from basing our entire existence on the “God given right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” to the “God given right to prosperity.”

Fry this chart is perfect for what you just posted. I may have mentioned it in another thread. I saw it in a Daniel Pink show on WNED.
Of course being an old man the only way I could display it was to take a picture of my tv with my phone and email it to my computer. lol

We are prospering but we are not more satisfied.

Yeah, I’ve seen data to the same point in Deep Economy. It’s a good read. Makes a nice chaser for Atlas Shrugged. :stuck_out_tongue:

I grew up in a single income comfortably middle class family. Sure money was tight and things like McDonalds was a treat, but then again things like McDonalds was a treat. My mom was always there when we needed her. My Dad was almost always home at 5:30 for dinner.

My kids will never know such luxuries.

^Well maybe it is time to re-evaluate the way you are living.
My wife works and I f’ing hate it. For the amount she makes it is just not woth it in my eyes but…

[QUOTE=97_B18b1;1415674]

I Ive read over 3,000 pages through 4 books (not to brag) on the federal resereve and trust me,

Mind posting or pming me the names of the books and authors. I am looking for some good reading towards this subject.

What does the Pope think?..

In his third encyclical, Benedict pressed for reform of the United Nations and international economic and financial institutions to give poor countries more of a say in international policy.

“There is urgent need {for} a true world political authority” that can manage the global economy, guarantee the enviornment is protected, ensure world peace and bring about food security for the poor, he wrote.

Benedict said that the drive to outsource work to the cheapest bidder has endangered the rights of workers, and he demanded that workers be allowed to organize in unions to protect their rights and guarantee steady, decent employment.

Guess you’re on God’s shit list.
It’s OK, I am too. I’ve done the whole premarital sex thing a few thousand times.

Christ I think the next time I’m in town I’m gonna take Nikuk up on that beer thing and sit down with some of you. Interesting topic

Of course the Pope is going to relay the Messiah’s message.:gotme:

So tell him to start being a team player about shmashmortions already.
Or at least condoms, shit.

the pope is antichrist

Fixed

I’m assuming that you were being sarcastic by saying that the head of the Catholic Church was going to relay the messages of a pro-choice, pro-stem cell, pro-gay (to a point), pro-separation of church and state president.

Bump because I’m going to spend Thurs & Fri in DC. Yes I am going to be a shameless tourist and go to 5 guys for a burger, and you had better believe I am going to be contemplating this stuff in the heart of where it all goes on. I’ve never been to DC before. I’m excited.

So all of my pondering has come down to this:

Those who trade in their freedom for their protection deserve neither. What about those who trade in their freedom for their prosperity? Have we done that?

Further are we all dead in the long run, politically speaking? Is our system set up to even have the option of not trading in our freedom for our prosperity?

Our generation is going to make or break this whatever-it-is. We’ve grown up taking for granted the very essence of our way of life. I hope we don’t lose it.

Anyhoo, can’t wait to go see the giant falice erected in honor of our founding father.

I have been to DC many times as a kid (My aunt lived on Capital Hill) and I always felt proud and kind of got the chills thinking about the founding fathers, etc. Now I don’t even want to take my daughter there because I am so disgusted with what has happened in the last 20 or so years. :frowning:
