I should be bringing my car back home tonight, so it is now for sale. Too many cars, not enough time. The car
1969 Mercedes 250. 6cyl, gas, 4sp manual. It is gray with a red interior. I bought this from the family of the original owner 2 or so years ago. It never saw a Buffalo winter. It still had Colorado collectors plates on it, and the owner (older guy) had drove it from Colorado to WNY a few years before. It sat in a garage at his mother’s house, and he only drove it when he visited. I bought it, changed the oil, and drove it for the fall. It’s been in various garages since, barely driven. I did drive it today.
This car was well maintained. The underside is spotless. The body is excellent. The only rust is some minor bubbling at the bottom of the rear quarters. It is all original metal, not a NY sheet metal special. The paint still looks great, original color. The chrome is beautiful. The red interior is very nice. A few dash cracks. It has an original working AM Blaupunkt radio. I have an excellent AM/FM Becker radio from my '71 that I can include as well, if you want an original radio with FM capabilities. The exhaust, brakes, all lines, etc, are all good! The tires are thin whitewalls, fronts are great, and I have 2 new ones for the rear. Excellent original polished/color-matched hubcaps.
The car always ran great. I never doubted it. It has been sitting, so it probably needs very basic tune-up stuff, which I may start doing. It has manual everything. These are very basic compared to the 80’s+ Mercedes. No complicated electronics to go bad, simple to work on, and parts are reasonably priced and and easy to get by classic car standards. I’ve found that places like United can get whatever is needed fast. Manual windows, steering, etc. Finding a 250 from this era with a manual transmission is somewhat rare, as most of the gassers were autos. The only issue as of now is the shifter should be replaced. I am going to try to find one, if I do it will be included and possibly installed. It looks to be very easy. It still shifts through all of the gears, just not as easy as it could.
I will post recent pics after I get the car home, clean it, and put a few miles on it. I parted out a similar car that was a NY rustbucket, so I can include extra parts with it. I also have other interesting things like receipts from 1969, the original factory workshop manual with the original binder, and other cool vintage stuff that came with it. If you are looking for a classic that you can start driving immediately, this is it. It’s not perfect, but it has a lot of potential, and it’s just a really cool car to drive. I’m asking $2900.
