FS: 1986 Mercedes 190e 2.3 16v Cosworth

1986 Mercedes -Benz 190e 2.3 16v (Cosworth Limited Edition) $5000.00 or Best Offer

Rare limited production model. Less than 2000 units sold in North America during the two year North American production run. (1986, 1202 units and 1987, 751 units sold). I would imagine that less than half of them are still on the road after 20 years. Trust me, you won’t see one of these on every street corner.

Based on the Mercedes 190 platform, this car has a Cosworth designed 16-valve, twin cam engine. It develops 167hp @ 5800 rpm from its 2.3 liters of displacement.

This car was built for performance and designed to compete in European Touring Car racing and racked up more than 50 wins to its impressive record. Some of the drivers who piloted these rare automobiles went on to become the top racers in the world including both Senna and Schumacher.

Performance Statistics: (According to Car and Driver Magazine 03/86)
0-60 mph 7.3 seconds
1/4 mile 15.8 seconds @ 88mph
Top Speed 134mph

The Car:
Black exterior with Black Leather / Woodgrain interior
185,500 Km’s

•Standard factory body-kit (22 pieces including rear wing spoiler)
•Upgraded Euro-spec headlamps (mount flush with built-in fog lamps)

Interior Equipment:

•Rear “Recaro” bucket seats (this car only seats four)
•Power sunroof
•Heated power mirrors
•Power windows
•Cruise control.

•Remote gauge cluster on center console with voltmeter, stopwatch and oil temperature
•Aftermarket stereo including new JVC KDS5050 AM/FM CD player with detachable face and 4 “Kicker” coaxial speakers

This car is mechanically strong and sound. It doesn’t burn any oil or leak any fluids. The car has never been written-off or salvaged. Overall, the paint on the outside is O.K. but would require a repaint to be perfect. The exterior is rust-free except for a small bubble under the trunk latch (about the size of a quarter). The leather seats are free of rips or tears. The clutch takeup is perfect. The car also has numerous new parts including pads, rotors, stainless brake lines, battery, starter and speedometer cable. The car is over 20 years old so it doesn’t require Emission testing in Ontario (although it did pass last year easily).

When this car was new in 1986 it listed for $59,350 Cdn. before freight and taxes! This was probably another reason why it was such a rare car!

Everywhere you bring this car it will cause a stir. I had it at a local Mercedes dealership last week and it emptied the service department. Trust me, nobody will believe you that the car’s over 20 years old. Most guesses are usually in the late 1990’s. This car is perfect for a daily driver, an excellent track-car or even a drift-machine with its rear-wheel drive. If you would like more information on the car or would like pictures or to view please contact me at “henc547 AT rogers.com”. The car is in Mississauga.

Interesting trades welcome… car, bike, seadoo.

And it was sold.

That may very well be the same car. Since I purchased the car I’ve worked through it and fixed all the mechanical issues (brakes, clutch slave, battery, starter, speedo cable, lights, cruise control etc.) and replaced loads of parts including some interior trim pieces. I’ve also gone through the car top to bottom detailing. This car is now ready for daily driving.

pics

I think it should read hp number of 185 and not 167…

Euro spec is 185, US spec is 167, crappier cams, exhaust, etc…

185hp was the euro specs… we only have 167hp cus of emissions but they gave north american cars a different final drive or sumthin to compensate acceleration

Like this one?

Those pictures are the right car, but the description is way off. AMG was never involved in the development or production of this car (a common myth). The car was also never “handmade”. AMG did however have a race team that used 16v’s in German Touring Car races, but they were independent of the factory. For more pics of the car please contact me at “henc547 AT rogers.com” and for more history on the car visit 16valve.com.

I would like to see the car in person… I e-mailed you my number

Thanks,
