yah dont worry. I have a hummingbird fish finder. My last time out before winter when the shores were ice over a good 20ft out, the water was 38*. if I had to guess right now, its prolly low-mid 40’s.
also, I have never actually caught any pike/muskies out of little round lake but My biggest northern came near the little round lake inlet where a brook trout stream dumps in, in 4ft of water. He was 40".
I know the lake like the back of my hand so I know where the hot spots are. The whole lake is pretty much weeds and most survive the winter. My buddy has gone out in the early ice off for the last few years and he was telling me a few months back how he would just see monster muskies and northerns sitting in the shallows and “fighting eachother” so if we are going to try to land a monster, right now is the best time IMO. Once it warms up, the muskies are few and far between and very hard to get. There is also a bait shop right down the road that has 3 different sized suckers. When I was in there for ice fishing he had some 12" suckers. I dont know if he still have them but I will bring my trolling rod with a sucker setup and my two spin casters.
do you have any white or chartruse Terminator T1 spinner baits? this is what they seem to always want with a worm trailing behind. I have also had awesome luck on the jointed shad wraps. I have three different sizes and a shit load of terminators if you dont.
I can tell you this tho, On november 20th (I remember because it was my birthday), I was alone trolling by myself because it was way to windy to sit and spin cast. I was using my big trolling rod with 30lb braided line on a white spinner bait with silver blades. On the route 9 side infront of the cement pier, where the sand bar is from the stream dumping in I hooked onto a absolute monster for all of 20 seconds haha. As I was still trolling forward, AND reeling in, this fish was pulling my drag out and turning my boat sideways. With 30lb test, I hardly have a drag because there is nothing that will break the line. I nearly cried when he shook it off. Toothys are so hard to hook when trolling because they just hit it so hard, and from moving forward the reaction time to set the hook isn’t fast enough.
Man with the plan glad to see we are both on the same page!!! I havnt boated a big pike/musky in over 2 years, big as in +36" I am ready to go. My father busts my ball when early season hes looking for bass and I am throwing a 3oz inline buck tail or the other ridiculously large musky baits! Alll I need is ONE hit! just one!!!
But yeah same here ill bring a rod to throw bait out and drag it around, and 3 more combos for casting. One no leader with a spinerbait, one leader with big weighted worm hook and rubber swim bait, slugo, etc and other with a leader for jerks, top raider and other shit to change up fast.
Yeah the yellow/white with colorado blades rock! yes I have a box full of stuff! gotta be about 20 spinner baits in there and lots of pieces to make custom ones. between the two of us we should have an entire dicks sporting goods in the boat!
I havnt been on that lake in a while, but i still knows a bunch of spots, and know the point your talking there too. Dude, I yell like I just got kicked in the dick when I loose a monster!
I love pike/musky fishing because they are BIG, and pissed off! Not afraid of the boat and there is nothing like seeing a LOG swimming behind the lure and BLASTING it. I get the shakes from some crazy pike hits that leave you shaking for a good 40 seconds later! CANT WAIT DUDE!!!
Not to kill sale but no you need a big boy or this is going to overflow. If you run a bung on the bottom and recirulate it back to the motor you’ll be alright though
