what pads are you wearing that you had to get thigh guards separate?
I wear Vaughn Velocity 2 pads, which came with thigh boards. The NCAA then banned them (thigh boards) last year, just like the NHL. So goalies now have to wear thigh guards or knee pads, that wrap around your leg and don’t hang out behind the top the leg pads. I got these thigh guards, decided they weren’t a good fit before even stepping out onto the ice with them and ended up modifying my thigh boards to fit. It’s just a preference call, some goalies prefer these, others prefer knee pads.

Yeah I found that out 1 week before my first game last October :bloated:. I ended up modifying my thigh boards to fit within specs.
im sure no one would have bothered you, when i was playing high school varsity i played the whole season with a cat eye on and only 1 ref ever said anything to me.
True, it’s highly unlikely that anyone would have bothered me about it. But I didn’t want to be “that guy” and end up getting a penalty for it. We have to sign a statement at the start of each season stating that our equipment is all up to spec.
