I thought I’d pass on the word to the NYspeed world that the company I work for, Kemper System, America (located in West Seneca, a minute from the 400), is hiring.
While I’m not doing the interview nor choosing the individual who will be hired, I have read the current resumes that we have in and know what you’d be up against.
At this point we are looking to hire 1 person to handle the responsibilities of:
- Picking orders
- Packing orders
- Handling shipping documents
- Loading trucks
- Unloading trucks
- Placing inventory
It’s all relatively easy. There is 1 loading dock, so there is only 1 truck to worry about at a time. Sometimes the workload is pretty demanding, other times you can get plenty of time to relax.
You would be working along side 1 other person in your position, and closely with the shipping manager. So that means the work you do is important, therefore you are treated as you should be.
At this point there is only 1 shift for this position. Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm. No weekends, no nights. There isn’t even a second or third shift for anyone here.
You should possess basic computer skills, as you will be using a computer daily to print shipping labels, fill out BOL’s, copy documents, etc.
You should also be familiar with fork lifts, reach trucks, hand carts, etc. If you are certified that would be a major plus. If not, we would get the right person certified. Hazmat training is also a plus.
As per most jobs, attention to detail is critical. Math skills can also be helpful.
Just a little overview…
The facility is large, clean, and well managed. The company is new to the states, but far from new. Kemper is based out of Germany and has been an established roofing and waterproofing company for several decades. A few years ago they opened up a location in New Jersey simply to act as a warehouse hub to get their products distributed on this side of the pond.
After that took off, they decided to purchase a Canadian company called Cantesco. Cantesco is a producer of many different welding supplies, leak detectors, etc. The owner of that company now is the president of this location and has merged both operations into this facility. We currently produce Kemper’s biggest selling roofing product, 2k-pur, and are currently transferring all operations from Cantesco over.
So this is all very good news for whoever gets hired.
I have nothing but great things to say about this company as they have treated me wonderfully. I am in management so you will be seeing a lot of me, and I will be gathering your input on your job. If you have ideas to make any of your duties more efficient, you will be heard.
So on to the benefits.
Starting pay should still be at $12/hour. You will have a review after 90 days and if you don’t suck, you will get a pretty decent raise (probably to about 14/hour).
Also, after 90 days you will get:
- Health care for you and your entire family from Univera, fully paid for by Kemper. A few different plans but all are nice and again, fully paid for. I have the PPO plan, accepted everywhere i’ve gone, no referrals for specialists, $25 pcp copay, $50 emergency.
- Vision coverage. Basic is free, the best is about $1.50/month
- Dental. Same as vision, just a couple bucks a month for great coverage.
- 401k. I don’t participate but Kemper matches your investment by a lot (can’t remember the figure) and you’re fully vested as soon as you enroll.
Kemper will also pay for college tuition and books (based on passing grades). I’m not ENTIRELY sure this applies to just anyone, but if you are a person with a lot of initiative and show interest in your work and desire to advance, this is a great possibility for you.
That’s all I can think of for now. If you’re interested please PM me. I’ll give you my email address and you can email me your resume. If you have scans of any certifications, please send those as well. If you can keep everything in PDF format, that would be great.
There is a double interview process to get hired. While this isn’t a management job, they are certainly looking for a quality employee that wants to work.
Any basic questions feel free to ask here, I’ll answer the best that I can.
