I’m guessing new front hub. Can’t see how that gets to 10x the original estimate for pads/rotors though. I guess if one of those swings went wide he could have hit a brake line or screwed up the caliper too. Any details on the final damage?
Worst rotor I ever had was on my Expedition. Ended up having to cut it with my angle grinder and peal it off like an orange. I have never seen one rusted on as bad as that one was. Before resorting to cutting I put my gear puller on it and had the puller so tight the rotor was visibly curved, then applied heat and smacked the shit out of it. Only when I cut a slot in the hat and used my 3’ crowbar was I able to peal it off.
Wow, that dude has some anger issues. He probably destroyed the brake caliper and/or lines, wrecked all the studs, the hub, possibly strut related damage and more…eeekk
Then again, that’s what you get when you buy an HHR.
I think there were some half shaft replacement costs along with bearings and other related items in the “impact zone”. I didn’t get the whole parts breakdown but it was extensive.
living in the rust belt sucks. I bet every car enthusiast on here has had that moment right there. Even if they were more composed I know it was being thought. Proper tools helps too. a air chisel will usually vibrate most rotors loose.
I came close with the rear brakes on my Jeep. it’s those hybrid drum/disc for the e brake. I couldn’t get that fucking thing off for the life of me. I finally broke down and brought it in to a garage rather than make it worse, and when I went in to pick it up he said it slid right off no problem… fml.
I know “this guy”. Not literally, but every technician on the counter has met this complete fucking asshole in one shape or another. Accusations of stealing, inflammatory remarks and so on… Then I’ve gotten the call/text later that day or night asking for help since they fucked their shit up so bad they can’t drive it. You made your bed, now let your warm thoughts tuck you in and sleep soundly since you’re a GD pro and Destroyed It Yourself.
My Outback has those- they were nice enough to put threaded holes in them, so I just drove bolts in until they were slowly pushing the rotor off. No way they were coming off any other easy way.
