Game over for online poker players in U.S.?

Washington D.C. recently became the first US State to pass a law allowing people to wager on online poker

The bill has been titled the Lottery Modernization Act of 2010 and has made Columbia in Washington D.C the first US district and State to incorporate an online gaming law that allows internet gambling.

Triple geography fail

Me and several of my friends are severely fucked right now

lol, I thought that looked a little sloppy. Those were some of the first news articles that came up in Google News, so I copied and pasted them.

One of my best friends Brother has done online poker for a living for years. This is BAD news for people like him. 8(
He pays his taxes and is 100% legit so this angers me. Go after the actual crooks, don’t go on the assumption that all online gamblers are crooks.

nice, now online gamblers can get real jobs  aha

unless they are good at it in which case it’s time to start taking a lot of vacations or maybe get around this with a VPN?

VPN or proxy perhaps? If you think about these folks, they are generally arbitrage specialists. Any restriction is only a loophole away from being cracked. They will find a way to carry on business as usual albeit with some modifications.

I deposited $250 back in November and it still has not came out of my account. Maybe this is my get out of jail free card… since I ended up losing the whole $250.

Have they transfered their domain anywhere else or is it still down? For sites that just used a .com for I would think we will slowly see a shift to another domain structure as most places are going to say FU and have their domains exist on another TLD like .co or something to prevent the US from controlling them.

They transferred the sites to .co.uk back on Friday. The games are amazing right now and I feel like I’ve taken a time machine back to 2005. I’m currently using a VPN to play and I’ve decided the risk is worth the reward since the games are so soft.

I’ve also been listening to a show called quadjacks who have been doing a broadcast since Friday night (the one host went 55 hours straight on the show lol) and they had Mike Matusow on the show who had a few beers in him and he went on a rant and said if he was a American he would be using a VPN to play right now and doesn’t think it will be a problem.

I don’t think the government will go after actual players so if you can get to the site you should be ok as no laws have changed since 2005. I don’t even think banks are even changing their policies any more than they have had. Just the stupid government seizing the domain.
