gas prices

50 t0 fill the crew cab with 89!!!

It cost me $19 to fill up my cavalier with 87 octane a week ago… I was pissed

Then again, I was almost OUT of gas too. Usually I don’t wait that long to get gas.

fuck you all

:finger:
93 octane in a Geo. :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I thought that it was bad to put very high octane in a car that is recommended to use 87? Or maybe it just doesn’t do any good?

Octane rating is just a measure of how fast gasoline burns. The lower the rating, the faster the gas will burn. You will ALWAYS get the most power and cleanest combustion by running the lowest octane rating possible without having any pre-ignition. To run 93 octane when you only need 87 octane is mind-numbingly dumb. You will get a slower burn and possibly incomplete burn of your fuel. In turn you will cover you internal parts with carbon buildup.

 I’ve never put anything but 87 octane in my car (except for maybe once I put 89 in it) but what you just said, is the PROBLEM I have with my car.

:rofl: you may break the tank and it will leak!

i wish i could find the article on running higher grade gas in cars that weren’t designed to…something about timing advance/improper atomization i think i can’t remember…anyways it said if the car was designed for 87 then use it.

i read this a while go, i dont remember where i got it from:

The octane rating of fuel is its resistance to ignition basicly. Higher octane burns slightly slower and is slightly harder to ignite. Lower octane burns faster, ignites slightly easier and tends to burn slightly hotter. By using a lower octane fuel, you could cause pre-ignition or detonation to cause damage to the piston tops, valves or even crack the cyl walls if it is bad enough. The ECU will compensate when it hears ping or knock but it has a limit on how far it can retard the ignition, and even then it cannot compensate for a bad tank of gas or a hot spot on the piston or combustion chamber causing self ignition. Those sorts of things are what cause the engine to have complete failure.

I always thought that if you weren’t running the right spark plugs and your car couldn’t ignite the higher octane fuel well, then it would clog up your spark plugs

course that could be a myth

so i use syntec blend and good gas, just to be safe.
why waste your money, just go 7-11 and get another pack of geo’s

nah that’s kias…when you’re done you crush them against your forehead and pop open anohter one

ill start walking if it gets that expensive!

i was always under the impression that higher octane is a waste of money for cars designed to run on 87! thats the reason for gettin a new ECU to teach your car how to use teh extra octane to make more power?
