ok, so a ditch that doesnt get filled by weld material, i have been working on such thin material it either goes smooth or i burn a hole in it so i guess i havnt experienced it yet

…that you know of. It’s not always a blinking red light of a problem. It can be difficult to spot, especially when you haven’t been looking for it.
TIG is not that hard, it just takes time and practice. I think its much easier to TIG than MIG because you are in full control and can make changes on the fly as you go.
i cant imagine im undercutting on 16ga piping, the stuff burns through pretty quick if your not carful or catch the edge
undercutting on light gauge steel is just as easy as plate steel. easiest way to see it is when you try to grind your welds flat, youll wind up with what LOOKS like your weld is still high because you still seam to have an edge, but its realy your undercut showing
