Subject: My beef with Taylor Behl
Body: rather, my beef with the legacy of Taylor. I am sure you have all seen the bulletins that have been circulating about Taylor Behl.
First glance at the bulletin: <b>TAYLOR BEHL WAS MURDERED BY A MAN SHE FIRST MET ON MYSPACE</B>. Big and bold. Make it stand out. What a great hook! Let’s take this into perspective. Ben Fawley has yet to be charged for anything relating to this case. While a jury of his peers may decide that he has indeed killed her, last I checked the law read something to the effect of “innocent until proven guilty”. Granted, I don’t have cable, so they might have changed that recently…
Secondly, this wasn’t a “hi, I’m from the internet meet me in a dark alley and I will knife you in the fucking face OMGZ”. These two people had a romantic involvement. It is my understanding that they met frequently. Thus I am a bit flustered by this self perpetuating bulletin that reads like he seduced her over the internet, then, upon meeting, he killed her. They could have met anywhere. Anytime. People kill people all the time. People meet people all the time. In this fucked up society, you get used to it.
Yes, I realize the point of the bulletin is to raise awareness, but turning Taylor into a “myspace example” is belittling her short life and death, because it is portraying her as a naïve girl who was seduced by some creep off the internet. If this guy was normal enough to have her ‘coming back for more’ so to speak, he was probably normal enough to seduce her in real life.
Am I saddened that Taylor is dead. Yes? Do I think she deserves a myspace extravaganza celebrating her fabricated imprudence? No. End Rant.
