GM 6.5L turbo diesel 2wd truck cheap

Looking for something I can swap an older body onto so driveline and chassis are important (ie- no major crashes or driveline probs). Body can be completely demolished for all I care- beat to shit, rotted out, tree fell on it, house fell on it, been fucked in, whatever. Rollovers ok but like I said as long as there is no frame damage or at worst must be very minimal super easy fix. Lower miles definitely a plus. Must have title, preferably clean, etc.

anybody got anything, know anyone who does, go to the auctions, etc?

Buy my fire truck!

BTW I know where a 4x4 is that meets your criteria.

isnt that fire truck gas? I’m still trying to find a use for that thing but need more of a general utility vehicle thats also useable as a daily driver. Im ideally looking for a 2wd but may consider a 4wd if the price is right… year/model? 1500/2500/etc? hd/ld?

what year is the body you are using?

48-54 GM 3100

Nice. I can see what they have here. I am assuming that you will title it as a 48-54 and that you are looking for a C1500-3500 single or dual rear wheel truck?

looking for single rear wheel, but undecided as far as heavy or light duty… I’d rather start with a normal ld 1/2ton 2wd 1500 chassis since thats all I’ll probably ever need, plus will undoubtedly be easier to drop/bag/etc; but the hd engines come with far less emissions controls, wired/ecu’d and calibrated as such, and none of which I’ll need on a vehicle titled as a 40s or 50s.

If there is any way I could get a standard run of the mill single wheel 2wd ld 1500 chassis with a hd turbo 6.5L and 4L80 trans I’d definitely go for that

too bad you aren’t looking for newer Duramax and 4x4: http://binghamton.craigslist.org/ctd/1785889434.html

What is your price range. I see complete trucks here 94-99ish for 3500-5500, although most are dual rear wheel, but you can always swap the axle with a single rear wheel. Not a lot of 6.5L’s in the 1500 stuff though.

keep in mind this is something im going to tear all apart, and im always looking for a sick deal anyways. thats why ideally im looking for something with a wrecked or rusted out body. Not trying to blow 10 grand on a truck im just gonna cut up but no point in picking up a shot pos with a million miles and a twisted frame for 500 either. Although if anything Id be leaning towards the one for 500, I can always fix up whatever parts I’ll end up using but its always harder trying to recoup a couple extra grand that u wasted on niceties

I think in 1995 they made 1500’s with 6.5L turbos in them.

yeah, very understandable. I keep looking for the 6.5L here in the yards, but nothing has come up. Since you don’t need a title with it, they’d sell you the parts from it separately here.

Another option would be find a good drive train, and then get a 1500 frame and switch the mounts in it. Or get a 1 ton frame and swap 1/2 ton suspension components on it.

yeah I’ve considered that but I already have a bunch of other projects I’m working on, if I have to start piecing something together it will end up taking way longer and undoubtedly end up on the back burner while I try to track down parts. Plus suspension work blows, and all the bushings are always shot when u get in there especially on a higher mileage vehicle like a diesel so I’ll end up replacing all those while I’m in there, etc etc. Costs and time involved add up fast. Not to mention peeps usually want way more for heavier duty trucks than a basic workhorse 1500 thats had the shit kicked out of it, so again no point in paying extra for 1 ton suspension when I’m just gonna swap it out for 1/2 ton stuff.

I dunno, again I gotta see whats up with whatever I come across- if somebody just happens to have an older truck laying around that isnt really being used anymore and just wants to dump it off for some quick cash I’d probably jump on it

I had heard that the diesel chassis were completely different, but now I’m hearing they are the same as sbc/bbc versions- even the gas mounts and trans are usable. So I guess I could just find a diesel driveline and drop it in any old 1500 frame. Still seems more cost effective to find something complete tho, the only diesels I’m seeing on ebay or anywhere else are going for a couple grand just for motor alone
