If the unions were smart they would give back some concessions to help try and save the company/jobs. They wanted their share when the company was making good money, now they need to be willing to share some of the pain in order to survive.
It’s backed by gov’t to some degree.You’d be surprised how many ppl here are collecting SS and still working.

made me laugh but probably true.There is alot of talk here about a layoff in January.I would actually welcome it for a little while as that is when my First kid will be popping out to say hi and want to take some time off anyways.I won’t be selfish and wish it to happen as If I get laid off there will be many others that don’t want to be and don’t want to see them hurting
In all seriousness, I don’t think the fed can let Ford, GM or both fail. There is just too many jobs at stake. MotorTrend had a good article and they estimated (my numbers were about the same) that if all 3 US automakers went belly up in 09, which is entirely feasable. The ripple effect to the American economy would be the cost of 2.5 - 3 million jobs lost within a year. No administration want that much blood on their hands.
Although GM sales are down in NA, the last few years they have been doing very well over seas. Particularly in the middle east and china. Its not so much the US recession that’s hurting them but the global economic slow down that’s got their balls in a neuce.
Import lovers flame away, but the US needs to start imposing tariffs on foreign autos. Japan does it to our cars, and so does Germany and many other EU nations. Couple that with the lower labor costs of producing cars over seas the big 3 have been at a disadvantage for 20 years.
It kills me to see them suffer so much given how far they have come over the last 8-10 years to improve their build quality and streamline their business practices, I just hope its not too late.

HaHa Thats great cause thats the first thing I said to him “WHERE THE FUCK DOES IT ALL GO” coincidentally my 19 yr old lifestyle of no bills or major expenses isnt shared by all, Mortgage, the common expenses of supporting a family of 4, the cars, home improvements, putting kids through collage Ext you know how it goes. i hear ya though some people just spend money like its water and in fact I can name quite a few people who I know this is going to kill, our personal situation isn’t that bad though, my mothers fear was always the fact that if my father was injured thats it, there goes our source of income, so of course they have always budgeted savings in accordingly, its not the end of the world 401K, savings, a few…well somewhat usefull investments Ext, its just shitty that the pension is a fucking joke and he wasn’t quite at the level of savings he wanted yet. Moral of this story go to collage, get a good job and dont ever be in the situation where you always are hanging by a thread.

Yeah except your forgetting how many Americans they employ, how many will be affected if they fold, and how it will affect the global market, glad you thought that one through, and I completely ignored my hated for GM “PRODUCTS” in saying that, I cant even blame the big 3 for the crap they make, they have no money to put into R&D towards making quality products, and even if they did it would be reflected in the price of the cars, that being said American consumers can barley afford the crap that they sell now, their cars reflect the income of the consumers and are a good fit IMO, I hate it too, but how the fuck could we Buy BMW/Mercedes priced cars when the market is tanked and we have no jobs. there are exceptions off course but there majority of Americans arent doing well.
It sux Gm used to make some siq cars. WTF happend! Oh they hired chineese guys to design there shit and outsourced everything. Man I remember old winter cars (all GM’s) i used to beat on and they never had troubles. Last new Gm we had was a 01 alero and an 01 gmc envoy. What pices of crap! My old 93 regal now my dads still runs better then my new alero did and my moms 01 gas hog jimmy that started to burn oil in just 3 years. Only the duramax holds its own, but still have had to replace things like the window regs, relay for the a/c, ball joints, u joints, torq arm, radio 2 times, dash lights stoped working, and both heated mirrors, not to mention the truck right now only has 27,000 miles and its an 03! Seems 96 and OBDII was the start of a down hill battle for GM.
Unions + international trade agreements did our auto industry in. GM & Ford & Chrysler could never compete. This situation was inevitable.
So, what the fuck does any of this have to do with cars GM is making now?

o there making even worse shit now! All garbage! My friends impala is a pice of shit, already been back to fuccillos 3 times for engine trouble. Its an 08. The guy across the street just bought an 09 silverado. he has done nothing but complain about it. He had his plow put on it and now the front end makes noise even when the plow is off, its a 2500 hd. my friends moms 08 hhr is a head ache, at the dealer at least once a month for something. GM build quality is crap and the price you pay for this junk is crazzy. just because some cant afford bmw’s buy a toyota or nissan then, way better then a dam gm, hell buy a ford! there quality over the last couple years is crazzy nice.
