Ford’s in much better shape, they might actually survive without a bailout.
I forgot this is NYSPEED and I have to spell everything out. Nevermind my post #359.
So are these actually going to be loans, or are the dems going to nationalize the auto industry the way the republicans nationalized the finance industry?
Yes, I am sure Ford is pissed. It’s not fair to them that their competitors get government help and they don’t.
Whether they’re loans or a partial nationalization, I’d imagine that Ford’s not exactly green with envy over it. Neither is very desirable for the executive board of a company.
I’d be pissed if Air Products was going out of business and Praxair was going to get all of their customers but the government stepped in and saved them. I can’t say that it’s necessarily the wrong thing for the country but it certainly contradicts the free market theory that all the success we’re losing was built by. :meh:
Thank you Fry.
I only took a little nibble at the democratic red pill, I swear.
All accounts say that this would be loans, not purchasing stock. And the freer the market, the bigger the swings. regulation skims some profits in boom cycles in return for cushioning the falls in bust cycles.
That assumes that Ford would pick up the consumers that GM is losing. Sure, some people buy GM to buy Amurrican, but a lot of the same group have a lot of disdain for Ford as a part of the historical Ford/GM rivalry.
I’d be more pissed off if I were Honda or Toyota, honestly. That’s where the majority of those customers would go, in the end, especially if they perceive the American car industry as a whole as weak enough to allow GM to actually fail entirely.
COMMUNIST, THINK OF FORD.
The free market clearly has flaws if it’s GM that’s failing. Their products are much better at present than Ford. There’s some mismanagement, and some labor contracts that are counterproductive, but in the end, we have a company that’s making a product that’s both (relatively) reasonably priced and high quality, succumbing.
Yeah I really have no idea what I would buy if GM and Chrysler went under, not as if the gov’t will let them. (thank god)
I have way too much hate for Honda and Toyota for their role in transforming the car from a personal statement to an appliance.
Ford’s product line doesn’t cut it for me, plus i’ve been programmed since birth to hate Mustangs. BMW I’ve always hated because of the over-humping by the automotive media.
Probably an Infiniti. Nissan’s been reasonably performance-oriented, especially compared to their japanese counterparts. Maybe a Benz.
more government control and regulation, the road to socialsim…well weve been a socialist country for years, hes just making it worse.
This blind ideology, as if there is something intrinsically good about the free market, or bad about socialism, is absurd. Both systems have flaws, and both systems have strong points. A system composed of the best possible facets of all different systems is best.
It’s not about one ideology or another. It’s about the best possible utility. If all the available evidence provides even a slight indication that one way or the other will serve us better, then that’s the best way for us to operate, because ideology doesn’t matter. I don’t care if the philosophy we adopt is capitalism, socialism, communism, or pastafarianism, whatever is the best in a utilitarian sense is what we should do. Strict adherence to one form over the others is plain stupidity.
Now I’m not arguing that there’s such indications here, because I haven’t seen the data (and I doubt any of you have either, to be quite honest). I’m simply saying all this “RARRRRGH SOCIALISM” crap is just plain stupid.
Always wondered why the banks got free money and the auto’s jumped through hoops.
Geez, GM should’ve went lifetime powertrain warranty too.
I am absolutely committed to working with Congress and the
auto companies to meet one goal: the United States of America
will lead the world in building the next generation of clean
cars.
I’m very nervous about this…I really like gasoline V8’s.
They must ask themselves: have they consolidated enough
unprofitable brands?
Fuck I really wanted to be able to buy a new Pontiac at some point in my life. Maybe the will be able to convince the white house that its a good thing to have a “go fast” division, and this migh actually force them to make live up to the go fast division name.
I think bankruptcy is where the Fed is going to steer GM. Personally, I think its a death sentence. All of you clamoring for it will get your wish. I think its a bad move for the company and the economy. Get your popcorn ready. Time will tell
Your wisdom is underwhelming.
If I make a turd for $10 dollars, and company X makes a turd for $7 dollars, and the market sets the price at $9 dollars, I go out of business.
…
If I can spend an extra dollar per turd to make one turd with corn and one with grape seeds, then I can charge $12 dollars because my turds are special and appeal to a broader market. Then I can beat company X.
Now if I get fat and lazy and only make turds that are dark and light, they’ll really just appeal to the general turd market and I’ll wind up competing with myself, which will drive the price of turds down to $8 dollars. I go out of business even faster.
We won’t even go into little japanese precut turd marbles that sell for $7.50…
So when is Obama gonna give me my job back at Ford?
When your union ups its contribution to his campaign.
sorry guys, i hate to say this kind of shit but I’m not pissed about Waggoner, I’m pissed because I know the Auto Task Force doesn’t know a damn thing about the car business. I’m concerned about this turning into a typical government run clusterfuck.
X2
My dad passed away in '92 after 40 years at GM busting his ass to support us. My mom lives on my dad’s pension and SS checks. If she loses that…
