I am… I do believe in an open market/economy. But when we’re slitting our own wrists, some kind of intervention needs to take place.

Massive government regulation does not work in a global economy that has none.
This is such a simple fucking concept.
Do Americans have particularly thick skulls, why is this simple concept so hard to drill into the heads of Americans?
Oh that’s right, we refuse to have ANY cultural change.
We must have all of our material crap and the Asian slaves must provide us with it.
Well guess what, the party is over and it is time for a monster hangover.
if im buying something that is going to take thousands of work hours to pay for it is going to be the best product available and i dont care who is profiting from it. that age old adage that I’m supposed to buy american to protect american jobs is BS and is from a time when the american products were better. the manufacturing company i work for remains profitable not because we have the better price but because we make a better quality product than our competitors nationally and globally. GM can and will be profitable again with some cost reductions and continued improvement on quality. unfortunatly a whole industry used to living on inflated wages is going to have to relearn how to live on the “meager” income the rest of us working stiffs are used to.
meh…
maybe if a few more huge companies fall and you all lose your jobs you’ll finally start a revolution and kill all the key figures causing the recession.
Here was an article from May when they bought it back:

GM buys it and sell it depending on the market. When they don’t own it they just lease it from the new owners.
Your a faggot.
:word:
You’re
Learn to read you douche.
don’t you mean learn to write?
No I posted again, and I put some text in the edit box everyone is missing. I was being sarcastic when I said that
The problem I have with that is the words “best product available”. You just said it yourself. It’s the American way that is just drilled into our heads. Got to have the “best”, the “shiniest”, the “flashiest”, the “cheapest”, the most “economical”, the “safest”, etc…
Why do we always have to make our decisions based on this? GM could build a kick-ass Cobalt that gets 25/35 mpg and costs $20,000. Then Honda could come out with a new Civic that gets 25/35 and costs $19,999. Guess which one would sell the most?
As far as “inflated” auto worker wages in America, I somewhat disagree. I am in a very strong union myself. When we negociate our contracts (every 5 years) they come up with a total dollar amount to be paid out over the 5 years. For sake of simplifying numbers, let’s say both sides agree to 10 dollars over 5 years. MY UNION would give out $1.00 per year in salary and put $1.00 into the pension. So $5.00/hour raise over 5 years and $5.00 an hour put into the pension. The GM guys take almost all of their money up front, which is why their salaries are somewhat crazy. Some of them make well over 100K a year, and then retire with a 30K/year pension. Not too smart if you ask me. So don’t feel so bad for them. It’s all in how they have their money allotted, which is mostly up front. They could change this if they wanted, but that is how they vote to have it.
What union are you in?
Do you have foreign competition or are you in construction, teaching, govt, etc that has no competition?
I agree.
