We’ll never see companies be that hospitable to their employees again
Not if you want them to survive in a global market.
Wait until they start importing Chinese made cars.
IT IS OK though, we don’t need mfg jobs here, we can all work in the service sector.
And some people think that’s a good thing. The race to the bottom is in full effect.
Part of the problem is the fact that Team Obama wants everyone to be union and make tons of money and the people he has put together to fix the GM problem have ZERO experience in real world production companies. They all live in their imaginary world where American unions can make as much as they want and still compete with the rest of the world. This should be interesting when they are finally forced to do the math and realize it won’t work (unless of course the tax payers pick up the slack).
…one of the main reasons his task force pushed them into bankruptcy was to break the existing union agreements. When they ran the numbers they said there was no way they could get back to profitability with them. For once in your life, give something a chance to work before you condemn it to failure.
Oh I believe it will work… no matter how much it costs the tax payers. He has pretty much made that clear already.
Still chump change compared to what we have dumped into AIG. And they employ a lot less people. Doesn’t make it better but people are so much more outraged over this because its a better-known company. The high-end estimate for this plan is $30 billion total in loans, and the gov’t gets majority ownership in return. We have $170 billion in AIG and counting so far.
They have already dumped 20 into it and I thought another 30 was coming.
I wish I had a money printing press to ensure the success of my company.
I am just jealous that’s all.
I read that there was $33 billion total being made available for the restructuring and some of that comes from the Canadian gov’t.
Blue Eyes, give Helicopter Ben a call!
^Got his number? I only need about $1 million to stay solvent. The way they throw around billions today $1 million should be pretty easy.:gotme:
haha, GMGMQ up 30% today. Always a sucker. :picard:

also very funny today:
re: Mark LaNeve, GM marketing boss.
he claimed that no one has successfully cracked the diesel passenger nut in the U.S. (which based on VW’s May sales appears to be wrong). More startlingly, LaNeve went on to claim that diesel is $1.25 a gallon more expensive than gasoline. According to the Energy Information Agency, the national average for diesel this week is $2.35 / gallon while regular gas is $2.52 or $0.17 more than diesel.
that’s fucking scary
seriously
GM should hire some people from the Apple marketing dept.
fuck no. I dont wan’t their new launches to be the iCar, iTruck, and iSUV.
Although come to think of it, they could keep their Mac and PC guys from the commercials.
Mac guy: “Hi, I’m a GM. I have well over 400 lbs of torque and actually give a damn about performance.”
PC guy: “I’m a Toyota. um, I don’t break a lot”
ok ok
but we at least need someone competent
Why do you think VW could be number one by the end of the year
Gretchen Carlson from “Fox and Friends” claims her family has owned a GM dealership for 90 years with a successful/profitable past and they got notice from GM. She also claims there was no reason given such as “your service sucked”. They had a 103% rating which apparantly is good. They are being forced to sign a closing agreement by this Friday which includes a “gag order” on the deal. If they don’t sign GM will not warranty their $4,000,000 inventory!!!
They had some guests on that were saying some dealer in New England was told to close until Barney Frank stepped in and changed GM’s decision.
The guests also also owned successful dealers, they talked about how the business and customer base were just being handed to other dealers after they put years of work in to build a successful business.
One of the dealers was ranked 5th in their city and so far this month they are number 1.
Scarey stuff.
