Get a Synology DS211j or DS411j with some 2tb HD’s, you got a backup stations and a kick ass nas storage device.
WHS as said by other is also rather a wonderful solution for home use.
People still under estimate the awesomeness of external storage. No server, no online account. Ya you lose the accessible anywhere but its the easiest and fastest way to keep solid copies of all your data.

I agree with this. The only problem is the shelf-life of those external devices. Hard drives die, CDs/DVDs don’t last forever. Thumb drives get lost and also don’t really last forever.
That’s why I like the idea of the NAS with RAID. Chances of 2 drives going belly-up at the same time is slim.
This is the type of thing, though, where something is better than nothing.
Sure, but your array can die on its own, without a drive failure, and still result in a loss of the data. Nothing is 100%. Best is to hedge your bets with multiple methods. the challenge is to do them easily and seamlessly.
