Good places to eat in the 518.

I’ve been to Garcia’s twice and it’s been horrible both times. I don’t even know how anyone can mess up mexican food, but somehow they do it. Taco bell > Garcia’s

Garcias is terrible.

Anyone know a good place for sushi? Girlfriend and sister are big into it and I am coming up to Albany for business this weekend and wanted to take it out.

Also, I read up on Albany Pump Station’s new menu and I dislike it.

Looks like De Johns will be my spot in town along with Villa Valenti’s.

Sushi- go to Koto’s

I love sushi, but don’t have it often since it’s pretty pricey. Had it at Kotos a couple months back and it was amazing. The tuna was the darkest red (sign of freshness) I’ve ever seen. They have a really nice menu for others that aren’t into the sushi thing.

edit: the first post in this thread mentions 76 diner… that place is WAY overpriced and it sucks. Carry on.

We go to Sushi House in Albany. I thought Kotos was the Habachi grill type place?

it is, but they have a bunch of regular tables too.

I haven’t been to many sushi places around here, so I’m no sure what is the best, but I do know that Koto’s is pretty damn good.

where is the Sushi House?

6 New Scotland Ave. Surprisingly, my GF says its better than some of the places down here.

wtf?! thats less than half mile from my work and I never knew it was there, HA!

Oh oh, you’ve got to hear this one then. I ate there with a guy I was dating and his family about 5 or 6 years ago. We ordered some type of chocolate-covered truffle thingies for dessert. I was the first to bite into one, and discovered that we had somehow been served chocolate-covered chicken. Honest to God. I do not recall the waiter’s reaction or excuse, as this was quite some time ago. Just that chocolate + chicken = yuck.

First and last time I ate and Garcia’s.

A very good friend of mine is there right now in a meeting.

Everytime the place comes up, I shudder.

shudder in a good or bad way???

No offense but a lot of bad experiences.

I’m not offended, I don’t own stock in that place

now I’m confused. I thought you were saying the place was really good?

I was referring to your employer.

oh gotcha… HAHAHA :crackup

if you like sushi, on western ave in that plaza across from paesans, where the bruggers is, theres a sushi place in the back, I forget what its called but its really good.

Theres a new Japanese steakhouse/sushi bar where Fresno’s was on route 20. The name of it is Hana.

Sushi and steak arent foods I like so I havent tried it but Ive driven by it and its open.

I am on my Blackberry right now and just got into Albany. I am here for business so I won’t be out but I’ll grab some sushi. I am right down the road from Matt’s work too.

Matt: Going to MS Conference at the Plaza tomorrow?

Yeah Hana on Western is good, kinda pricey if I remember right. Union Street in Schenectady has Mr. Wasabi, which is awesome.

nope, knew nothing about it

Yea I saw that. The owner of the old Fresno’s used to own Colorado Steakhouse on Central as well. Does he still own both buildings because Colorado Steakhouse is now a japanese steakhouse.
