I aquired a laptop, I’m wondering if it has wireless or not,
How would I find that out? Other than going to a wireless spot?

Check the device manager under Network Adaptors.
yeah; look for a ‘WLAN’ device
If its windows XP, right click on MY Network Places, and click Properties. It should show LAN or Wireless connections.
If it just shows a LAN connection, it doesnt have wireless…
Not true - it can have both. Especially if it is a laptop.
I think he means, if it doesn’t show that it has a wireless connection - but just a lan connection - then it doesn’t have wireless.
Crap I don’t have it
next question, Is there a wireless card I can buy thats internal?
you could probably look into a minipci card provided that you’re 100% comfortable with opening it up.
i’d pop it open and take a peak to be sure there’s a slot before you go ordering one though…
what make/model is it?
my vote would go to an external pcmcia card though…
Make/Model of the laptop, and someone will definitely be able to tell you fi there is a slot inside for it.
Otherwise, you can just buy a PCMCIA wireless card, that goes into the slot on the side of it. That is, if this laptop has that… but, I can’t imagine a laptop that doesnt! Hopefully its newer…
i have an extra card if you want it
Err, PCMCIA card to be exact
its a HP NC 6230
according to a simple google search it does have wireless
Mine is weaker than that one, it only has a 40 GB HD, and 1.6 Ghz M
so should i just buy the external card?
:gotme:
did you open it up yet?
i mean because if you haven’t (and don’t want to) open[ed] the case then you’d be better off with an external; so yes.
I think I’m just gonna open it
I really hate the way the external looks
They’re really easy to get at. I work for an IT company that deals with HP almost exclusively. I have a 6230 that has wireless built in. I’m suprised they all don’t have wireless. If you need help, shoot a pm.
i bought an external card with a router today
