This pic says it all…

Quad Core - Quad CPU
Quad core2 duo with Hyperthreading, another pic of this:
Ya know, I think something like that might actaully scare me. I wouldn’t know what to do with that much processing power. Then again… 4 years ago I never though I’ve be able to fill 250 GBs of hard drive space either.
a core per process lol…
now if they could actually just speed up HD read and write speeds things would be better
I’m surprised Windows didn’t just curl up and die when it realized it effectively had 16 processors to deal with.
have them… still they aren’t fast enough, to compete with Gig lan lines, and processor speeds HD’s are the limiting factor right now
good point
Mechanical HDs are probably going to reach a brick wall soon. You can only spin those platters so fast.
Solid state FTMFW!
are flash memory type of drives capible of faster speeds? I would assume they are
Much faster… don’t have any numbers currently. But when it comes to price/GB, you can’t beat a standard HDD for value.
Yeah, but a 2GB flash drive is what, $20.
@$10 a gig that’s $2500 for a 250 GB flash drive that could replace your magnetic platter HD.
I know the formula for cost wouldn’t be that simple, but basically flash memory prices have to come WAY down before they’ll replace a real HD.
I can see having your OS and real critical apps loaded in flash memory in the near future though.
that price is correct, samsung has a solid state HDD coming out at about 10 a gig.
and the tests arent that great, the only real speed difference is booting into windows.
i might have a quadcore with my name on it… stay tuned.
