If I plead not guilty, don’t I have to go all the way back out there for another court date?
From anything lawyers and cops have told me, never plead guilty or no contest.
If you plead not guilty, you are going to go back out there unless the court allows you to submit a plea by mail. I got in trouble up north by the 1,000 islands and did the whole process through mail. Just ask them when you call to reschedule if they will allow you to do it that way.
just do what I said and there will be no record or any of this bs
I’m going to write to the DA. Just talked to Vestal court and they said I could probably do all of this by mail.
I need to send in a letter stating whether I plea guilty or not guilty. Should I write anything else on that letter?
Typically, you will need to respond to the charge with either guilty or not guilty.
If you have any documents the office gave you like the citation, you might find a part on it that you actually mail it in with a response guilty or not guilty.
In about 2 weeks you will get a response back saying you can either mail in a plea or show up in court on a specific date. Mail in the plea and then you should get a letter back stating that your charge has been reduced.
I am not a lawyer, just going off expirence and what people have told me.
I’ve been able to take care of traffic violations entirely by mail just by asking, each time I just had to write a letter to the DA there. There’s only been 1 time I wasnt able to,so I think it’s entirely up to the court. Just ask.
Never plead guilty…any lawyer will tell you that. I would hire a lawyer and let them make the plea bargins and write the letters for you. You can try on your own but I wouldn’t want to mess around with your record.
6 MONTH ACD FTMFW
It helped that a buddy’s mom is a pretty important lawyer and vouched for me on this by sending in a cover letter with my letter to the DA.
What’s ACD
isnt it like probation?
Its like some community service punishment they give you. My roommates got them for underage drinking. Just lawyer fees and some community service and then its wiped from your record after your probation is up.
Nah.
No fees.
No fines.
No community service.
Just gotta keep out of trouble for 6 months.
