Brian and Chris Lock, driving the #93 COBB Tuning Subaru Legacy GT, recorded their first Top Five finish in Grand Am competition on Friday during the Discount Tire Sunchaser 200. The performance bested their previous top effort of 6th back in May at Laguna Seca.
Even with the reduced amount of track time at this event, the GOTO crew was able to quickly get the car setup for the 23 new turns of Miller Motorsports Park, allowing Chris to make a strong qualifying effort and put the COBB Legacy 8th on the grid. After the first two qualifiers were DQ’ed for illegal parts, GOTO found themselves 6th on the starting grid. While a four-off excursion in the opening turns of the race had Chris down to 12th, he was able to fight his way back up to 8th before handing the car over to his brother.
Brian was out on track in less than a minute after a speedy pit stop by the GOTO crew, and proceeded to set the fastest lap of the race by over 0.4 seconds with a 3:16.86. Even after needing a second splash of fuel, Brian’s pace would move him to within striking distance of the #144 Davis Acura of Mike Galati, who in the closing laps of the race, lost his position to Lock, putting the COBB Legacy into the Top Five.
Chris, Brian, and the GOTO team would like to take the opportunity to thank COBB Tuning for their support this year, the tour of their new facility at Miller Motorsports Park, and for the helping hands this weekend. Thank you also to Gruppe-S Tuning for their continued and tireless efforts toward the program. We would also like to thank StopTech Brakes, Hotchkis Tuning, DMS, and Calculated Risk. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated.
The race will air September 23 at 1:00PM ET / 10:00AM PT on SPEED. Don’t miss it!
Not bad for a stock motored car weighing in at 3050lbs race weight. Impressive showing by an ametur non factory backed team in the series.
