I was doing the brakes on the Acadia and the left front inside pad has two grooves in it, and matching raised pattermns on the rotor. Do you think something got in there (like maybe apiece of rotor that came off) and wore the groove into the pad, and then the rotor would just wearin the same pattern?
could be something that got stuck in there, bad spot in the pad or rotor
it’s hard to say what could cause that but its not totally uncommon. little piece of stone could get caught between the pad and rotor. all it takes is a little groove in the pad and a rust ring will form on the rotor. rust builds up cuts down the pad lining and the ring grows.
that’s my theory on it.
id be more worried about why your pads are breaking apart on the ends, and id wonder about the rotor. looking at the rust lip, it looks thin to begin with.
The rotors had been cut once by the dealer because they warped early. Recently they wanted to replace the pads and said the rotors needed cut, which was never going to happen since they were already cut once. I replaced pads/rotors myself.
They’ve also had to top off the brake fluid twice because it was triggering the check brakes light. Apparently the fluid level dropped low enough for the sensor to pick it up. They insist this is normal with pad wear. I’ve never had to top off fluid (and purposely didn’t so it wouldn’t overflow with new pads) on any vehicle I’ve owned. There aren’t any apparent leaks and the pedal always feels normal. Maybe just a bad design on the shape of the reservoir.
And to make things more interesting, when I started it up to go bed the pads in, and was sitting in the garage, the entire garage filled up with thick smoke. I’m thinking I somehow broke a brake line and was burning fluid, but it was coming from the tailpipes. Checked the oil and it burned about 3/4 quart in 2000 miles. Back to the dealer yet again. Way too many trips there for a 33,000 mile vehicle. I think the extended warranty is going to turn out to be have been a good choice on this one.
a lot of front rotors can be cut more than once. it all depends on the thickness, usually minimum thickness is stamped on the inside somewhere
it’s likely that GM will deem your oil consumption “within acceptable limits” i seem to remember something about oil usage in those things
That’s what I’m worried about. A garage full of smoke isn’t acceptable though. Looked like someone lit a few smoke bombs.
