GTO ad

im 100% with Jeremy and altima on this one… SVT contours handle pretty damn good, GTP’s are a fucking heavy ass grand prix with a blower bolted to it.

Yea, torque is definately going to make a difference in handling in a fwd car.

cars dont move on their own

too bad the GTP is far more reliable

those 24 v contours break more than a DSM-

my g/f mom bought a new motor a few months works fine now.
too bad the tranny slips now:rolleyes: 96 contour w/ so much in repairs its almost funny:(

Are you serious? We are talking about handling, which has to do with weight and suspension, and very little to do with the amount of power a car has. Give it up, the svt is better in the twisties.

oh shit! thats it! youve found it! OMGOMGOMG the secret of awesome handling! Im gonna go outside and rip the kyb adjustables, and springs, and swaybars, and strut bars off the hatch. and strap a supercharger on it! Then it will handle like the GTP and ill dominate SVT contours in the twisties! ohhh mannnnnn this is awwwwwwwesome i cant wait!

i’ll disagree…i’ve never had a problem in the 3yrs+ i’ve had mine…and i frequent the contour forums…and there are not may problems.

I’d have to agree that the Contour will outhandle a stock GTP. I don’t think there is any question there. I had a '99 Cougar which is the same exact platform as a Contour, and I also have a '00 GTP. Without a doubt the Cougar outhandled the GTP.

Now, with the addition of the GM Perf Parts handling kit and some custom front and rear STBs, the GTP handles like a totally different car, but at that point, it’s not really a fair comparison.

did they do anything different from a NON SVT contour?

Engine wise the regular 2.5 v6 contour, mistique & cougar have the same v6 duratec as the SVT…just the svt engine was work over to get 30more hp. (170-200)
extrude honed upped & lower intake manifold, cams, higher compression, intake, etc…
but it not a totally different engine

The 4cyl contours have the same engine as the Focus
2.0zetec

one of the things that being done now is swapping in a 3.0 block from a tarus, and one guy is working on a swap from a v6 Lincoln LS. you can swap the whole engine or just the 3.0 block and use the SVT UIM, LIM, etc…
