guitar playing

i want to start playing the guitar. anybody on here who does play… how did you start? did you rent then buy after awhile or did you buy 1st then learn to play? did you teach yourself if thats the case how did you do that? or did you go take lessons and if thats the case were did you take them from?

i play bass, if you have ne friends who play, have them come over and show you some stuff most neone of your friends who plays an instrument will be more then happy to teach you how to play just so they can have someone to jam with. You can borrow their shit till you decide you like it enough to buy your own stuff. If you dont have ne friends who play then idk what to tell you kuz i did lol

Guitar hero will make you an instant musician.

Yes then when you get real good you can start rock band.lol.

But seriously, my little brother(16yrs old) started with guitar here one. got to expert on that. Borrowed his friends guitat started learning on that. My dad bought him a small amp, used that for 6 months.

After a few years went by him and his friends now have a band and all equipment. My brother has 6 guitars, and can play alot of diiferent songs. But he practices everyday and a for a few hours at a time.

buy a 99 dollar guitar… and just try to play the songs you like.

thats how i started… practice makes perfect… see if you can google some beginner things to learn aboiut the guitar and learn about how to hold it

agree ^^^^

buy the 99 dollar guitar from walmart, or guitar center.

the squires, and such.

then look up the tabs, on internet, there the easiest thing to read.

very simple

Ya the 100 dollar guitar, You should find a fender squier strat for that price.
You looking to spend money on an amp? You can get a combo pack with a cheap guitar like that and an amp, straps, etc… but small amps like that are horrible, grandit your just starting but its difficult to play with disortion cause it doesn’t really ring and whatnot with thos cheap amps and just overall sucks. Check out the guitar factory at southgate, tell them you want like a 20 watt good sounding amp and the guitar they prolly won’t have that cheap so check out those other stores but they might have a cheap used one.

Look around for the 15 watt line 6 spider II. Good amp. Theres a spider III out for $100 but the spider 2 is the same, III just has a few more effects but most people don’t use them.

ebay for a decent cheap guitar and amp, tabs on the internet to start playing, if u wanna get real good, then take lessons.

i just started… like this week… i picked up a combo-pack with a gibson-maestro guitar, amp, strings, picks, etc for 150 bucks at best buy. and im just looked at tabs, still lookin for some easy songs to get started on

personally I would say spend about $300 on a decent used guitar, $99 guitars are shit and can make a professional player sound bad

The best thing you can do is try and play by ear, reading music is fine but having an ear for it is far better

Start out with the basics like tuning and other basic fundementals of music

Unless your a natural its a slow progression to the point of where you want to get to, it takes alot of practice and a ton of determination

Good luck!

the problem with him purchasing a 300 dollar guitar is the level of commitment he would bring with it…

it could just turn into a 300 dollar decor piece

very true, maybe_memories taught me how to play, and as far as tabs, www.mxtabs.com has lots of songs

My favorite quote:

ILC and I are playing GH3, Boardjnky4 is sitting on the couch as it wasnt his turn.

He picks up ILC’s guitar and utters…

“What the fuck are all these strings?!”

mxtabs isnt around anymore :frowning: ,try ultimate-guitar.com–they have some good stuff.

1 vote for used guitar. i started out when i was like 5 with a shitty guitar, dont even remember the brand. just kept saving, pieced together a nice strat, got a nice acoustic, a few cool tube amps, etc.

i started screwing around with the guitar, after doing so on the piano. then started taking lessons. luckily my dad is a pretty well known blues musician so i got lessons from jim brucato when I was like 8 lol.

when i was a kid, my dad made me buy my own crap guitar. i was on my own. but then when I was like 19 i told him i wanted to play bass and he gave me a fucking '64 jazz bass. figures

yeah but the feel of a $100 new guitar compared to a $300 used guitar is discouraging

Cheap guitars tear my hands up

Plus you can always resell it, a $100 guitar isnt worth shit for resale
