Over the past couple years I have been keeping wraps of some products that I’ve been developing for the gun enthusiast. Recent weeks there have been some people stopping by the shop to see/test and give opinions on some of the prototypes I’ve worked up, and their input has been put forth into the first of many pieces to come…
The RF-C is a carbon fiber handguard developed for the sport shooting/competition enthusiast as well as LEO/SWAT in mind. 100% designed and manufactured in house, the carbon matrix is formed in a mold under high pressure to blend into the ergonomic design seen here while retaining incredible rigidity and strength. Shown is the rifle length version(midlength also available, about 2" shorter) and with the proprietary clamp, currently weighs in at about 5.5oz. Top picatinny rail and ad ons will increase the final weight but the overall goal is to keep the rifle length version below 8oz
There will be a full length top picatinny rail as well as vent cuts in the body. These are not show as I am right in the middle of manufacturing the jigs to cut them out and will have them finished likely tomorrow. I wanted to get some pictures up online as people were starting to catch wind of this lately and figured it was due time to release the details.
Features/Overview:
-Lightweight carbon structure. Naturally shock absorbing, heat resistant, and incredibly rigid for it’s size. Made using ONLY materials made here in the USA. Carbon, resins, billet, even the fasteners.
-Ergonomic shape designed to accommodate multiple grip styles with integrated finger grip wells for both left and right hand shooters and a forward hand recess for forward holding positions, edge resting, etc.
-Proprietary clamp design that uses stock millspec M4/M16 barrel nuts. No special barrel wrench tools required for installation, use a standard armors tool.
-Completely removable from the clamp via fasteners for future cleaning and disassembly of the rifle as needed. It does not glue onto the barrel nut as others do.
-Full length uninterrupted upper picatinny rail, as well as flat body provisions to mount aftermarket stub rails for forward equipment, 45 degree side sight, etc. Future RennFab products will integrate seamlessly with the RF-C.
-Milled surface texture to retain grip in wet conditions. Exterior surface will be a matte clear and all billet parts finished with a ceramic(cerakote)black finish. Other colors will be available on a custom basis.
-Available in Rifle(~13.5") and Mid(~12") lengths. Price starting out at $220 mid, $240 rifle. Requires the use of a low profile gas block, but can be user modified to work with fixed A2 stlye front sight posts or flip up style front gas block sights. This has NOT be tested for use with gas piston systems but that is under way.
Production is to being in full next week and will be done so in small initial batches however preorders are being accepted. First batch of 15 is going fast with about half of them currently spoken and paid for. If you are interested in getting one soon, please contact me to discuss payment methods.
Pictures below show the initial carbon prototype. Shape and countour is of the final design. Top rail and vents not shown.
if you could put a metal ring around the front and rear of carbon fiber. it will last longer and it will look better. the ends tend to fray and the cf will degrade faster. you could keep it as is and it would still be cool.
-There will be no ring around the front carbon. The ring would dent/fail before the carbon would.
-There is already a rear metal enclosure, it’s integrated into the clamp by design and acts as a backstop when sliding the handguard over the clamp.
-No it won’t fray, this isn’t made like chinese carbon products with inferior resins and weaker vacuum forming process. You’ll dent an aluminum handguard far sooner than cracking this carbon one under equal pressure abuse. When I pulled the first prototype out of the mold I did an offhand test by throwing it into the concrete floor of the shop as hard as I could. It didn’t even crack then.
Go try that with an aluminum handguard and let me know how it looks after
