I quickly got off NYspeed when I was reminded and read that. to that guy. Taught some broad a lesson, and donated to a good cause.

^^ Each BlackBerry device is assigned a unique eight-digit number called a personal identification number (PIN).
Aka, you trade your phone to someone legally, and until you de-register your PIN, you will still get the other persons messages. (It happened to me when I bought Silvers BB).
Marcus, this could turn out bad for your friend if the person who lost it tries to go for it. I’d let him know about that consequence and try to turn it in. Plus if it’s for Verizon and still linked to the original owners account, he won’t be able to register it anyways cuz the ESN will be in use.

Oh, well maybie for a blackberry, but wouldnt it still have a esn for at least the phone part that would cause some problems if you were to steal it and attempt to use it as a phone?

AND YES! seriously, my friend took my phone, and for some freeking reason tried to unlock the sim… WTF… moral of the story is, the sim was blocked forever!, and i needed to get a new one and have it set up and whatnot…

no it’s a PIN on a blackberry.

sim lock is different than the blackberry feature. the blackberry feature is designed to protect intellectual property

I understand this, obviously the phone should try and keep your stuff secure if it gets stolen, but im saying if the phone were to be stolen, and you tried to use it as your own phone, and remoed all the preious data…

Yes if the ESN is still linked to the other persons cell phone service, then the ESN won’t be useable anyways.
