Man that author is super paranoid, I found maybe a few things to worry about but most of it would seem necessary for it to work in the first place.

not really… everytime you play a movie or song on your machine if using windows based programs its gonna check for licenses of the media, keep a log of all the media you are playing etc… and then you get sued arrested for piracy in some form of sting, the government is going to go straight to microsoft and provide them a list of everything youve ever opened on your machine for potential ammo.
yes that is paranoid but if you are one of the few who are singled out for it then your case is all the more weakened. This could also be used to identify potential piraters given a trend in what they are opening or if they are using a cracked version of vista.
