Heads

Can 60-62cc heads be machined down to 58cc?

If so whats involved and how much would it cost? I really want 58cc heads to keep the compression up but most that Im finding are 62cc.

With 58cc heads the compression will be 10.4:1. With 62cc heads it drops to 10:1.

run the fuckin heard 10.1 is all ya want for the street on pump gas

Yes, you just have the heads decked at hunts, prolly a couple hundred or less

I want a little higher compression because Im not spraying or boosting it. Will decking them affect much? I dont want the valves hitting the pistons again.

not a huge diff in 10.4 and 10.1 just a little timing and im sure ya wont notice it paul

your always makin a big stink and makin it harder on yourself. get the heads, bolt em up and go.

oh man, and this is coming from petard…

paul you better do work FAST.

I just want to get the right shit this time around. I dont want mismatched parts like before.

I just found this: 58cc 60cc 64cc
4cc Flat Top10.7:110.4:110.0:1

Im trying to. Ive got a little motivation again but I need heads. Cam isnt a big deal because Ill just buy an off the shelf Comp (fuck custom shit) but Ive got a budget for heads.

I need 58cc heads with 3/8" studs for rockers since Ive got good rockers now.

You’ll have to check PTVC once the heads are on, no just slapping them on. Id call teh Co. you got the shortblock from and ask them about the PTVC with different heads, they should lead you in the right direction.

You HAD good rockers, Harland Sharpes are tits!

with those idiots theyll tell me somebody stole their computer and they cant check anything.

And what can be done with clearance after I bought everything? Would I be as fucked as the last time?

No, I HAVE good rockers. I never sold them.

Oh ok, good lol

Checking the PTV clearance on your engine will be fairly easy on an engine stand.

Basically, all you do is assemble the engine with very lightweight valve springs on the #1 cylinder, rotate the engine by hand, and check the valve clearance at the tightest spot on each valve with a dial indicator. You can easily replace the valve springs with the originals by filling the cylinder with compressed air on TDC of the compression stroke.

Clay=junk, don’t let anyone con you into doing it that ‘dark’ way.

Oh, and I would not bother worrying about .4 compression points. Put the money into something else.

I found a good deal on a set of new Canfield heads but Im waiting to find out what size the rocker studs are. Theyre 54cc so the compression will be even higher.

What happens if I buy heads and a cam and the ptvc isnt right?

Thicker head gasket, and/or flycut/change pistons.

As I recall you want .080 on the intake side and .100 on the exhaust side, min.

A good engine builder can give you a close estimate on your PTV clearance with cam/block/head/etc specs.

:thumbup

I definately hope I wouldnt have to change pistons or cut them. Theyre brand new Probe flat tops.

So what do you think of Canfield heads with 54cc chambers? Is that too much?

Theyre $1050 shipped and new in the box.

if you have bad ptvc wouldnt the motor not turn over all the way? or atleast give you a hard time?
