Hell has frozen over

Impossibleā€¦Macs donā€™t get viruses

I donā€™t think anyone will ever dispute that OS X can be infected. If they do, they should be shot in the face.

However, just the fact that it has drastically reduced market share makes it significantly less of a target. And in many senses, it is more secure than most systems running Windows.
There has been several known Virusā€™s for OS X for quite some time nowā€¦ Which is why virus scanners have existed for several years, and Apple recommends you use one.

You would be surprised. Most people who own a Mac have them because they say they always get viruses. When I bought my Air they were shocked that I simply wanted to buy a Mac without listening to all the super offers and support and setup they have which really set the bar of the typical Mac owner.

Iā€™ve had a shitload of Mac users come in and sayā€¦ā€œI want to get a mac because they donā€™t get virusesā€. I have a windows PC and I donā€™t get viruses?? 99% of infected computers are because of poor computer knowledge. 99% of Mac users that I see donā€™t know what OS they are running or where/what the Open apple is.

+1

I still encounter retarded people all the time that believe this.

while itā€™s possible, have you ever met a mac user that got one? I havenā€™t.

So if I got a mac I could check out all the porn sites I wanted without getting a virus like I do with windows? hmmmmm

Thread title unbefitting to thread topic. FTL.

So as a mac user would any one suggest downloading that free anti virus software on that site?

Sophos is a very reputable company. Not sure how their A/V is however.

Yes.

Just about every ā€˜virusā€™ out there for OS X, currently needs you to type your password for it to run. If some unknown program asks for your password, donā€™t enter it and it cant run. The most recent ā€˜Virusā€™ outbreak was some CS5 torrents were infected with some bug asking for your password. If you payed attention, youā€™d notice it wasnā€™t the CS5 installer itselfā€¦ But nobody does. And even those, dont really have any known purpose. I guess it was just harvesting machines, probably for DoS attacks or something of the sort. As far as I know, nobody ever said they have a slow machine as a result of any of Virus/Spyware.

You should never have a issue browsing the web on OS X, at least currently. You can go to any crack site you want and download keygens and whatnot with little worry. I have never had a problemā€¦

No reason to do soā€¦ I used to run a few different antivirals, but they never found anything. Its just going to slow the thing down. You SHOULD, however, have the stock firewall on. Its off by default, and nobody ever uses it.

Whoa whoa. Where is this firewall located/ where do I turn it on?
