If you want to make a vented hood, do it properly so it doesnt fly apart and kill people. Buying an aftermarket vented hood is a viable option.

Grab a hood, cut out what you want, then make a model of what you want your vent to look like, stick it in, then lay fiberglass over it and make a new hood. Incase you misunderstood, you would be only using the old hood and the vent model as… a model, to make a whole new one piece hood that has a vent in it. Safer, lighter, better.
Sounds like a lot more work to me…id say its the most professional way but i dont want to have to go about with making support braces under my fiberglass hood getting it to bolt on etc…id much rather just ensure my fiberglass peice will be secure. The vents im making are out of sheet metal and will be tac/spot welded on and the fiberglass will be used to smooth out the sharp vents and just make the hood look smooth. I will be re-enforcing the bracing under the hood.
