While returning my exhaust to stock on my 03 rsx, my secondary downstream o2 sensor stripped and broke off in my test pipe. The oem denso replacement is $330 and I have no money for that right now.
I ended up getting a universal one from advance for 69.
Its a bosch.
I opened the box and in numerous places it says not to solder the wires together because it kills the life of the sensor. it gives you a bunch of strange wire connectors and a box that goes around the spliced wires to waterproof it.
I have never done anything like this before, Ive always just cut and spliced and taped. Has anyone ever used one of these before and done this?? It says to measure each wire out to a diff spec and all this confusing shit that my simple mind can not seem to comprehend.
has anyone done this before and used one of these? did it work?
I used one of them on my A4 in the upstream position. It worked fucking great for the entire time I owned the car. I know what your saying about those goofy connections, I think that there called posi-lock or something. The wiring is pretty straight forward, one is ground, one is the heat wire, and if I recall correctly, the other 2 can be oriented either way, it didn’t matter. This was 4 years ago so my memory isn’t the greatest, but yeah, those universal ones work fine. Also, I wouldn’t even consider a used O2 sensor. First off, it will be welded in place and no guarantee it will beany good.
that doesnt make any sense. I am sure the exhaust gets hotter than anything you would use to solder it together. go for it, and if it doesnt work cut the o2 sensor off ater the solder and exchange it.
I dont think you can soldier the wires cause they are aluminum if I recall correctly. I used a universal like your speaking of before as the second 02 sensor (tatle tale emissions sensor of the two) but the wires ran into the floor of the car under the seat is where the oem connector was. That is where I did the splicing, this way I did not have concerns with weather and etc…
