Blah so my HID’s recently started turning off after 30-45min. This is the 3rd time its happened to me. If I turn off my bike and start it back up they come right back on. It happens to BOTH bulbs. Anyone ever heard of this happening?
Im thinking maybe its some type of safety setup so they dont melt/explode or whatever… but it hasn’t been super hot/cold and I can’t relate it to anything else. They have been working perfectly fine since like jan/feb when I got em.
If this is on a motorcycle I would suspect possibly a voltage drop. HID ballasts can be damaged if they are running off of to low of a voltage so most of them have a built in safety cut-off. Maybe the battery is getting old.
if u are expeiancing a voltage drop, try using a relay to turn the kit on, ur running light/low beam may be gettin fed a lower voltage than a full 12. the ballast doesn’t like low voltage as stated earlier. check with where u bought the kit, most of the manufacturers sell an optional relay kit that plugs directly into wiring ur kit already has, all u have to do is wire hot & ground.
Everything was plug’n play, no splice. Ground is solid as is battery connection… Already has a relay setup. As for more airflow, there really isn’t a way to do that unless I uhh, drill holes or something. Everything is under the windscreen.
Battery is 18mths old, but I guess I could get it tested or something.
I removed the windscreen and just shuffled everything around with my hand and went out for a spin last night. It was pretty chilly out but the lights stayed on. Took a short ride today and they stayed on. Maybe its fixed? I guess I’ll know next time Im rolling around a bend at 70+mph and they turn off.
double check the tubular connection for the bulb output, there should be a red and a black (idk which kit you have so it may be different) sometimes those connections are bad right out of the box, wiggle it just a little bit… if it goes off, well then you know what to fix…
