I watched one episode of Whale Wars and I wanted to harpoon those hippies too.

I read up on the international whaling laws too.

Something like each vessel cosigned by that government can pull like 6 whales a year for research. It never states what kind of research.

It also stated something along the lines of, after the research was done, the whale meat could be sold on the public market to recoup the costs of the expensive research vessels and crews.

I also read that there is no international agreement of “Whale Safe” Waters. What one country says, another does not recognize IE. New Zealand and Japan.

The whaling laws are actually very simple. Japan whaling fleets use the “science research” clause to take the max allotment and then they sell the meat.

My biggest problem with assigning fault is the hippies have zero right to be harassing the whalers the way they do. Even if the whaling vessels were clearly breaking the law that does not give regular citizens the right to become vigilantes putting people’s lives in danger.

In this case they whaling vessels aren’t breaking a clear cut law, they’re in a gray area that the international courts haven’t even ruled on. That’s why you don’t see any official law enforcement out there trying to stop them. Instead these idiots go out there and play chicken with huge escort ships then cry foul when one of their boats gets run over.
