I am looking for a program which I can create a “dream house” persay and digitally look at it. Its nothing big, but for a quick project I need to do. I have heard of 3D home architect and if anyone can link me or point me into a direction to download it, that would be great! or I guess I could settle for thesims if anyone knows where I can get a free download/crack for it but I would like to use something other than a video game if possible
don’t really know about Home Architect, but if you’re willing to learn you can try Blender, which is an open source 3D modeling, rendering and animation application.
3DsMAX is another good one, but it’s probably not something that you’ll be able to pick right up, it has a very very steep learning curve. You can try a free “light” version of it called G-MAX thats more for game development than photorealism, but uses the same engine and plugins AFAIK
Autodesk also makes Maya which is also a good 3D Modeling utility/rendering application, but again… it take a long time to get good at it.
Then Finally… there is Bryce, which is fairly easy to get the basics down, although again… it’s going to take a while to get “good” at it. The plus side is that the UI is a lot more intuitive than other programs, if you’ve never played with 3D modeling before. From my experiences with it, is more geared for creating landscapes and such, but I’ve seen many great things done in it other than landscapes.
as for where to download them from, I can’t give you links… but I’d suggest looking on torrent sites. Shouldn’t be a problem to find anything you need.
As for GMAX and BLENDER, look them up on google…
What is this for? Most of the above isn’t the greatest for getting accurate dimensions and shit though. It’s more “artistic” if you will.
Don’t you play HL2? You can use the level editor to also create a house

Coming from someone who has actually designed a house in autodesk inventor… GET DESIGNATED ARCHITECTURAL SOFTWARE.
That is all.
the sims
Google’s Sketch Up… http://sketchup.google.com/ A wonderful tool
bump…
is there an autocad like free program that I can use that will allow me to see the rooms in 3/d so I can look at design options?
but it is not free unless you want illegal stuff on your computer.
want it to be legit.
blender
try revitt…It’s designated architectural software that actually creates the construction documents as you create the 3d forms in a super simple way
I.E. you click on a “brick wall” tool, drag length and height. continue to construct the whole building in this way. you click over to paper space, everything is drawn, dimensioned, even sections. PRETTY FREAKIN SWEET
Ugh… I hear ya on that one…
Google sketch up works pretty good
