Hey guys, I know some of you work in construction or just know a lot more about home improvements than I do, so I figured I would check here. Out entry way to our house is always cold during the winter even through I have redone all of the insulation strips around the doors to make sure they aren’t drafty. I finally noticed that there is a lot of air coming out of the lightswitch cover that is next to the door. I am tempted to just put some insulation in there, but I was worried about putting it in there with the wires. I didn’t want to create a fire hazard. Should I be worried or is there another way that I can insulate this?
I have seen insulation run alongside plugs like that. If tehre is going to be a fire it’s going to catch teh insulation no matter what. But I would see if anyone else has the buildinh codes and see if there is any other type of insulation you can use.
Yeah, I was thinking of using standard insulation from home depot, but I was worried about any bare wiring that could be sticking out of the terminals on the switches possibly coming in contact with the insulation and catching it on fire.
they sell little foam pieces that are the shape of the switch cover. put one of those behind the cover and it should help out alot.
