Home Owners - Radiant Flooring

So my upstairs bathroom has 3/4" plywood for the sub floor, then 1/4" of backer board(the white stuff not cement) then tile.

on the first floor i took down the drywall to expose under the subfloor. I would like to use PEX tubing and heat the floor. I currently have a boiler and might tap into it later but for now I just want to run the tubing and put the ceiling back.

anyone know tubing sizes needed?
spans or loops per sq/ft of floor?
temp needed?

thanks

thanks for the link!
anyone here do this yet?
how bout you Maxsim2000

If I were to do it’d just use those electric underlayment panels from HD in a few small spots (like in front of the tub, toilet, sink). I dunno if I’d retrofit the whole room - seems like pain (since you’d probably have to add reflection and insulation between the joists as well - otherwise you’d end up with the heated ceiling)

Is that going to be able to efficiently heat the tile floor through the 3/4" ply, backerboard, and mortar?

Seems like a HUGE PITA to install.

it would be a lot easier to heat the floor thru a wire heater ran to a switch
i think we ran 2 loops per 12" tile, i really cant remember it was last summer

it heats thru the mortar and the tile great, You lay down the motor, run the wire, and set the tile on top of it, it’s SUPER easy

you can adjust the temperature as well via the switch on a dial sort of like an older t-stat for heat adjustment in your house

i really can’t remember what was involved though as far as electrical supplies :picard:

^he has a boiler so he neednt run the electric heating.

dont matter if you have 3 inches of concrete.
1/2 in pex and i dont think you’ll need more than 100 degrees. your best bet is to research online.

this pic is probably what youd want to do
