mine was built in 61, most of the insulation is falling. Gonna have new siding and windows put in hopefully this summer-gonna have the walls blown in with insulation while its all stripped.
That’s an insane heat bill. The bill for my 2900sq ft, 100yo house hasn’t really been over $100 yet (I’m sure this month would have been if it wasn’t estimated). I’m guessing you have rather shitty windows and no insulation in combination with a horrible furnace. I’d talk to the landlord and see if they’d do anything.
The window film seems like a no brainer to me even if they did look like ass. I’ve been debating doing it on my upstairs windows. There’s no heat runs up there so it gets pretty cold. Plus we rarely use the rooms up there minus the bedroom so it’s not like we’d even see them. Just not sure if I want to mess with them.
I’m not sure if I get your guys argument about turning the heat down. Do you really think it takes more energy to heat a house from 50 to 65 than to heat it all day long to 60? I know you have to heat up all the contents in the house and everything but I don’t see how the savings wouldn’t be there if it’s that far down the whole time you’re gone (8-9 hours). I typically turn mine down to 55 during the day and night. 64ish when we’re here.
my gas bill is less then that for a 3200sqft house
but the shit works and it is easy to put up
