FIA limited to 18k RPM. When unrestricted, the Renault and Cosworth engines were seeing over 20k and maybe 21k RPM during race conditions.
Just downmod the comments that are asinine (all of them).

plenty of done up cars run higher compression than you deem “perfect”. I’m sure chuck could chime in on this. But a certain Ls1 was running 10:1 compression and i beleive it was 20 psi. only mad something like 977hp though…
That’s just the old V10’s. They’ve run the new V8’s to 25k in testing. And rumors are of the next gen of boosted engines may not be RPM limited (because the design of the engine may inherently be limited to about 16k :().
