He needed then to take the top hats off of the OEM struts.
Fogs and strut bar came in.
So they weren’t full coilovers?

plenty of full coilovers come without top hats.
negative. a full coil over would be adjustable height, and camber/caster plates.
no top hat = adjustable hight suspension. like ground controls are just an adjustable hight, not a coil over.
really i guess it all just comes down to technicalities and what each person calls something.
but that’s just my 5 cents.
so if it has a top hat that isn’t camber adjustable it’s not a full coilover…ok budy
just because you think something different then what the standard industry term is doesn’t mean you are correct. full coilovers have always refered to an adjustable height threaded shock/strut body with springs, not if it has a top hat or not. you are right that ground controls are not full coilovers, they are coilover sleeves, which means they do not come with struts that are paired to the spring set up (although because ground controls are of such quality you can find many struts that are valved to run with them).
There are a lot of coilovers that don’t have top hats. I try to avoid them just because it’s annoying lol
And usually, but not always … The rear will not have any sort of camber adjustment

Should be cake walk my I helped my dad on his em2 and they came out great, I found the oem instructions on how to do them and based off that it’s simple.

Well it sure has been a while since i had a chance to work on my car, but slaw offered to help put the coilovers in and i happened to be not busy that day. i’ll let the pictures do the talking, aaron and fucked up on the first strut and let the kunckle fall and the axle came out, also i need to replace my tie rods mine are deff fucked from a good beating with the hammer.
