well my friend last night finished fabricating his own Lambo Door kit for his civic and for the first try at a DIY product it looks awesome! I would never put lambo doors on my 240 but it made me think about fabricating a piece to make the hood open forward, like hinging it on the front.
Anyone ever do this? Are there kits available? Any pics?
i don’t see why you’d want to do that…in my opinion it limits ease of ingress to the engine bay. when it opens to the front, you can walk all the way around and use the front and sides to get into the bay. with it opening forward, you only have 2 usable sides.
it doesn’t really look that much better either…
with that said, i’ve never see it done on a 240 nor do i know of any kits that would be available. i can’t see it being too hard a job though…
Don’t do it. The hood opens forward on my other car and it’s a bitch to work on. If you have a major job on your hands then you have to remove the hood then put it back on etc. It’s a pain in the ass. It looks cool and all but it’s not practical.
actually its pretty practicle if your hood release is facked up your driving on the highway and bam your hood pops open and smashes your windshield and roof, now with the hood hinged at the front under wind load it will not open so i would say its much safer.
I would recommend you have the hood open the other way only if you have an easier method of removing the hood than removing all 4 bolts (Assuming you run the same latch setup just at the opposite end)
because there is no doubt that you will have to remove your hood to do even the most basica maintenance.
Need to top off coolant? HOOD COMES OFF
hell an Oil change might even prove to be a PITA with a hood mounted that way.
