House wiring question

I think I’m good to go then. Going to run the cable and put the new GFCI in.

You should see the setup for the Christmas lights. Going to run them off 3 different circuits since they tripped the breaker, but I want them all to come on from the same timer. Getting a 30A double pole single throw relay powered by the timer to turn on the other two circuits. It would be easier to just use two timers and let them come on close to the same time, but now it’s become a challenge.

Ahhhh…that’s the key…unfinished Thanks for clarifying that

I’ll take your 14 and raise you 12 more :bigthumb:

But yes you must use gfci in unfinished basements and garages.

One more question. When the house was built, the electrician spliced a run of UF to the NB cable for a light post outside. I noticed last night that the wire-nutted splice is up in the rafters. Shouldn’t that splice be in a box?

yes it should be in a box. if you want i have a wiring book if you want to borrow it.

This is why I like doing as much as possible by myself. Got a quote for doing the deck and it wasn’t even close to the quality I wanted but cost a lot more $$$, so I did it myself.

I picked up a book based on the 2005 code, but thanks anyway. All of this because of Christmas lights! At least I should be better prepared for finishing the basement.

Next thread will be about plumbing.

New breaker & GFCI protected circuit is in and I’m still alive. Go me.

This is more fun than engineering. Unless I had to do it every day…

Good Job
