go to the us foods cash and carry over in the food terminal. For $20-$30 they have really great food buckets that have measuring lines in them. It will make measuring your water real easy, as well as being a clear bucket that you can see what is going on (best to wrap it to keep light out but either way)

Fill with hot water, dump in a shit ton of bleach, let sit for a few days open. Rinse with hot water. If its not gone, it will never be. Just buy new FOOD GRADE BUCKETS. Don’t go to Home Depot and buy a bucket to make beer in. Thats how you get cancer.

you will never get the smell out … the pizza place i worked at used to keep wings in the buckets and it would still smell like dill… its not worth the time it will take to get it out just go buy new ones…

Brewing buckets are usually 6gal though, makes it nicer to have a little bit of room for foam and shit. They are like $15-20 per though.
And if you’re only doing one batch at a time, you should have a plastic bucket and a glass carboy. After the fermentation is done, you move it to glass because air doesn’t permeate glass.
Or you could just ferment for two weeks then bottle it to let it clarify in the bottle. You’ll just have more sedement.

dude, a clean fementer costs 15 bucks with the lid. There is cheap, and then there is getto. Are you so broke you can’t just spend the 15 bucks. You will need other parts. Honestly, for 99 bucks shipped I got a pretty dam nice kit. Had everything, plus a carboy, syphon starters, tubing, valves…
