how to get a smell/taste out of a bucket?

well, im starting to piece together a homebrew set-up and i acquired 2 5 gallon food grade plastic buckets for fermenting/bottling

the only problem is the were originally used to hold pickles. if you know me at all, this is a huge problem

so. what can i use to get this pickle smell out of these buckets? should i just buy new ones? is it pretty much a lost cause at this point?

i know there are a few homebrewers on here, give me some advice plz!!

thanks

jam

cat piss

^ ok, thx i’ll try that!

Every pickle bucket I’ve ever dealt with has stunk forever…I’d say get new. Not worth ruining good brew with an awesome pickle aftertaste.

 i guess no one can take a joke anymore from a complete stranger.Whats the world coming to.

bleach

just go to home depot and buy two five gallon buckets…iv ran those pickle buckets through a dishwasher and they always still seem to come out smelling like pickles

try soaking it in water and a a tablespoon bleach for a few hours and then rinse it off very well.

It should come right out.

Ok who hooked you up with BK buckets? lol

haha no i work at a pizza place

and i’ll try the bleach, thanks for the heads up

just B carefull with the bleach. if any remains it could fuck with the bacteria that make alcohol ever so yummy.

try getting BBQ buckets that what i use. most pizza places get the 5G jugs

no chance at Jam’s PickleBrew?

ok, wow, that sounds dirty. nevermind. . .

nah we get reg 1 gallon open pit

you love it

+1… I’ve also attempted to de-pickle buckets… Not even bleach worked… and i used a hell of a lot more than a tablespoon. Anything else that MIGHT work would probably leave a whole new aroma/toxic aura in place of the pickles.

Fork over a few bucks in the name of good home brew.

goto home depot and spend the 5 bucks on one

JUST MAKE PICKLE BEER!!!111ONE!

new buckets. pickle smell never goes away. plus you’re better off with pickle beer than bleach beer. just buy new buckets they’re not that expensive.

i honestly can’t believe that this is a common problem in the home-brewing community. lol. but they say the same thing.

Of all things that could have been in the buckets, it had to be pickles
