Hello,
Does anyone know how to set up a mailing address in the states or how it works?
The whole time I thought you set up a mailing address in the states (ie. Buffalo or somewhere near the border) and you drive there and pick up the items, etc.
After some searching, i’ve only found places that sets up a mailing address for you but then sends the items to you. What would be the point of having them send it to you? Anyone know?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
well alot of places offer free shipping to the US. Now living in Ontario it’s more expensive to ship say from California to Ontario than it is just south of the border to say Toronto. This is how you can obtain alot of the shipping cost from there free shipping within the US only deal alot of shops offer.
In the end you still pay for duty and taxes as well but usually not near as much as you would if the company sent it to you directly.
(this info is from what I have heard from people in the past)
Also there is a way to set up a mailing box in the US at a post office as well but a fee is applie for this route.
I’ve shipped to the UPS store in Niagara Falls before. I then reported my item to customs, and paid all related duties and taxes because I love our government and think they deserve every penny they can get
Seriously though, it depends on what you’re bringing over. I got a laptop, junked the box, tossed it in my laptop bag with my mouse, mousepad, etc… And it became my old laptop that I just have in my car. Not that they even asked. Like hell was I going to pay duty on something that I could avoid.
Most things you can get away with it too. If you buy baller wheels, roll up on steelies or 7-spokes and just junk them, then drive back with your new wheels. Same with tires, roll up there with bald ones, change them over.
Some things you can’t, and I wouldn’t recommend you trying to. Unless you can get it installed in the US, and you can dispose of your stock parts, then I would just report what I’m bringing over. Personally though, I would always go that route, because I would rather give my money to a shop, to support the tuning community, and get a quality install, than waste it on the Canadian government.
I think this is what you’re looking for.
