Hybrid GT-R to Offer Supercar Performance and a Clean Conscience

It seems like more and more automakers are beginning to warm up to the idea of combining performance with environmentally friendly, with a slew of new hybrid sports car concepts acting as proof. If the rumors prove true, the Nissan GT-R could be the next high horsepower sports car to be offered in hybrid trim.
The hybrid version of the GT-R would make use of the same potent 3.8 liter twin turbocharged 6-cylinder engine found in the normal version, but would also be equipped with an electric drivetrain similar to that of the Infinity Essence Concept. All told the two powerplants would crank out somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 horsepower to all four wheels, which is roughly 115 more than the GT-R makes now.
However, due to the additional weight of the 2nd propulsion system, Nissan is not expecting a giant leap in performance. This isn’t really bad news, seeing as the GT-R is currently nothing short of a street legal track car.
The hybrid variant is estimated to achieve between 25 and 30 miles to the gallon, which one can assume is a combined figure.
No official word on pricing, but if the GT-R Hybrid is put into production a 6 digit sum wouldn’t be out of the picture.
