Ok, so after reading that I’m 95% sure the reason they did it was to enhance intelligence and the HIV immunity was just a cover.
A better discussion however would be if we can alter our DNA to make us smarter why is it so taboo to even discuss doing it? Clipping CCR5 from the DNA of an embryo to potentially make the child born from that embryo able to retain memory better is morally disgusting but putting a 5 year old on hormone blockers because they identify as a different gender is celebrated? What a weird line to draw in the sand as a species.
