rb20det engine skyline r32 gtst type m i recently did my head gasket and head studs and had to take out my camshafts, now im having a problem re-installing the cams and getting them to spin correctly to aline the timing. the engine is at top dead center piston in the front and back of the engine are at the top (1&6 ) and the other four are at the bottom sitting evenly to eachother ( 2,3,4,5 )…i also put oil all over the camshafts nicely, and torqued it down to spec evenly at the same time and my valves are all working properly(not siezed) … i was told that the camshafts have number on them telling u were they sit(is this true?) anyways i cant seem to find any please help …
Did you put the cams in backwards by chance? Are you having a problem with the front or rear caps?
no thier deff not backwars the camshaft is connected to the camgears that are infront of the motor, and thier on the correct sides because on camshaft has the CAS(cam angle senor) clip on it … and the very first cap can only fit on the front, and the last two have extended bolts , its mainly the middle ones … i hear it has to be reinstalled in the exact same order…???
It should be like any cams, as long as you have them torqued properly and in the order the FSM says you should be fine. Are you sure the valves are in the correct order based on cam timing? For example you say 1 and 6 are TDC so those valves should be completely closed and the cam lobes should be away from the lifters.
what do u mean the valves in correct order? the valves always stayed were they were i never touched them just cleaned them up … my camshafts only shit in one poitions although i can rotate them, but they only lay facing the front were the cams attach to them . i can tourque them down in the correct marks to aline the timing but the wont rotate once touqued. shouldnt they rotate freely? if piston 1 and 6 are completely at the top wouldnt the valves be pushed down once the camshaft is tourqued and hit the piston head and therefor stop the cam from rotating? if not im guessing the order of the cam caps should have been marked before i took them off …so now what?
the order of the cam caps should have been marked before you took them off. It says so in the factory service manual. As far as I know, your shit out of luck now.
